60 years old Dr. Srinivas Ramchandra Siras, of Aligarh Muslim University was suspended from his job after some students taped him having consensual gay sex. 2 months later, he was found dead. He was a divorced man with no family or friends, and his life spanning over 60 years ended in shame and disgrace!
One question that has to be clearly addressed here is that, one doesn’t choose to be homosexual or bisexual. It’s like choosing banishment from his dear ones. One doesn’t choose to be straight either. It is ‘nature’ that decides who is homosexual and who is straight. And it is the law of nature to create diversity, and also to balance things out. Why is it so difficult to think that nature intended it this way? Why not respect nature and be nice and respectful towards each other, as equals? Nature doesn’t discriminate, nor does the law- why should we?
The university’s decision to suspend the professor was a sure shot violation the Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code, which allows consensual homosexual activities between adults. The professor chose not to fight against the university’s decision, instead left quietly to return to his hometown and then ended his life. This should be marked a dark episode in the history of this country’s liberation movement.
It’s funny to read sentences like how people should think twice about being gay because of how it might hurt their parents and what will become of the human race if everyone became gay or won’t life be tough if someone became straight (“normal”) after being gay. How naive! One doesn’t choose to be gay or bisexual or transgender…it’s like choosing banishment from all that one loves. One doesn’t choose to be straight either, nor does one decide all of a sudden to go back to being straight or gay. One either is or not…the only thing that makes it look like choice is when a person admits and comes out of the closet. It IS nature that decides who is gay and who is straight. And it is the Law of Nature to create diversity, and also to balance things out. Why is it so difficult to think nature intended it this way? Why not respect nature and be nice and respectful towards each other, as equals? Nature doesn’t discriminate, why should we
