Democracy and interest articulation

One of the major issues with Indian democracy is the problem of interest articulation. The very purpose of democracy fails when political parties fail to articulate the interest of majority. That is the very pillar of democracy. But the classes keep victimising themselves and always blame the other.

Why are the government policies driven by sectional interests and not common welfare? Why do we have Mamta Banejee openly supporting Maoists and Manmohan Singh keeping mum on it? Why is she going out and destroying political opposition in her state using violence? Why Varun Gandhi makes a religion biased comment and BJP takes no responsibility? Clearly, Mamta and Varun are acting as the sectional care takers of their respective parties. This is the wrong way of imposing democracy.

Like any other problem, the solution to this problem also lies with us. What can we do to change the way politics work? Well, we tend to misunderstand the political parties we know. The political party we support or oppose doesnot belong to Sonia Gandhi or Advani. It belongs to the local leader participating in your constituency in Nagarpalika-Nagarnigam-Panchayat elections. Make sure you vote for a good, clean and concerned person, who is willing to do things right in your area. Change has to happen from the bottom, and not from the top. It never works the other way round!
